CSA Electrical Enclosures

At 3FAB we are manufacturers of CSA rated enclosure types 1, 2, 3, 3R 4, 4X, & 12. We have the capability to fabricate electrical enclosures based on your prints or drawings, or we will design and build enclosures to your specifications. Our enclosures are manufactured from the finest stainless steel, aluminum, and domestic carbon steels available. All stainless steel and aluminum custom enclosures come with a standard or brushed finish and all carbon steel products have a powder coated finish.

All our custom electrical enclosures are CSA approved. We adhere to the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) standards as well as those from the Joint Industrial Council. Custom designs are manufactured with the support of CAD/CAM technology.

CSA Type Electrical Enclosure Standards

CSA Type 1 Enclosures: General purpose electrical enclosures for indoor use to protect against falling dirt but are not dust tight. Can be used as a junction, pull, or switch box.

CSA Type 2 Enclosures: Drip tight indoor enclosures are similar to CSA Type 1 enclosures, with the addition for drip shields, and are suitable for application where condensation may be severe, such as that encountered in cooling rooms or laundries.

CSA Type 3 & Type 3R Enclosures: Designed for indoor and outdoor use to protect against rain, sleet, snow and dripping water. They are suitable for applications outdoors on ship docks, canal locks, construction work and for applications in subways and tunnels; use indoors where dripping water is a problem.

CSA Type 4 Enclosures: Provides protection where equipment may be hosed down or very wet. They are suitable for use in dairies and breweries.

CSA Type 4X Enclosures: Same protection as CSA Type 4 enclosures but provides an additional level of protection against corrosion. Suitable for food processing plants, dairies and refineries.

CSA Type 12 Enclosures: Protection against dripping and light splashes of liquid.
